This 3-credit international study tour for pre-service and in-service teachers at the Kodály Institute in Kesckemét, Hungary provides an opportunity for music teachers to learn first hand about Kodály inspired music education as it has evolved in Hungary from the early 20th century to the present day. Students will engage with Hungarian faculty and delegates from around the world in pedagogy, musicianship, conducting classes, choral rehearsals, round-table discussions, and massed choir performance of Zoltán Kodály’s Budavari Te Deum. Course participants will attend the 21st International Kodály Symposium entitled Music and Music Education in the 21st Century: Global Challenges which coincides with the second week of the course. Kodály Level I, Level II, or equivalent experience is required.
